A referee lodged a police report after a recent Singapore FA Cup match between East Coast United FC and GFA Victoria FC at Bukit Gombak Stadium, as confirmed by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) on October 18.

In response to questions from CNA, Aloysius Vetha, FAS' director of competitions, disclosed that the "incident" occurred in the 92nd minute of the game, involving a player from East Coast United and the match official. Vetha added that following the incident, the referee determined that the game could safely continue.

The player's identity from East Coast United was not disclosed. Despite the incident, East Coast United FC emerged victorious with a 1-0 scoreline. The referee, however, took the unusual step of filing a police report later that evening.

A video capturing the incident showed the player confronting the referee after receiving what seemed to be a red card. Subsequently, the referee fell to the ground before being escorted away by teammates. The case has been handed over to the FAS disciplinary committee for further investigation, which will ultimately determine the appropriate sanctions for the involved player.

Aloysius Vetha emphasized that FAS maintains a strict zero-tolerance stance against violence in any form, whether directed at match officials, players, or club officials. Such behavior has no place in football.

It is worth noting that the Singapore FA Cup exclusively features amateur teams, as opposed to those from the Singapore Premier League.

This incident comes several months after a Singapore Football League 1 match had to be abandoned due to an altercation between a Warwick Knights player and a referee following a penalty decision. The match in question involved the Warwick Knights and Yishun Sentek at Yishun Stadium. The decision to halt the game was attributed to an incident that was deemed to compromise the safety and security of the match officials, according to FAS's earlier statement.
